What fun! I had one week of workshop on this subject and would like to share what resources I know about. Our instructor was Geoffrey Eatough who used excerpts from his own Selections from Peter Martyr (Repertorium Columbianum Vol. 5). This book is very expensive (even in a used condition) but can be obtained from interlibrary loan. Whenever we got caught in translation confusion he would use a translation by Augustus Francis MacNutt; however I was never sure when perusing MacNutt on Amazon what was Latin text and what was only a translation. For recommended background reading in English: Rivers of Gold by Hugh Thomas. This was recommended by Dr. Eatough and I found it fascinating.

Salve, Chris,
I am intrigued by your choice of reading for next summer. Any suggestions on how we can get the text to have a look?
Thanks,
Jacqueline Lopata

I am participating in a Latin study site, e-mail quasillum.com. Although it is the case for most of the study groups that participants efforts are published without comment, there is one writers study group "Scriptores" where the moderator scrupulously comments on the participants' efforts. Apparently, since its inception a number of new people have indicated an interest and the moderator will therefore shortly be changing texts to Bradley's Lessons in Latin Prose. If you are interested in improving your Latin writing skills now would be an excellent time to join this group. We translate about 15 sentences per week.

Partly because I had forgotten my original password, partly because I now have a new e-mail address, I was unable to get back into the system without establishing a new account. Once in, I was unable to edit the original volatrix profile, so I have just added an update on this year's activities in my volatrix2 profile. My new e-mail address is volatrix@att.net.

I have received word from the Athletics director that our group will be given full access to the gym, INCLUDING the fitness center, which has all the treadmills and weights. This was not the case last year. Thanks to Scott Petterson for nudging me on this. We will have to schedule some sort of orientation, I believe, but that should be no problem.

I might add eyedrops to the list. I know several folks commented about their eyes getting tired, and I noticed that mine were reddened by Thursday.

although not a technical expert on transferring photos, I did understand that my photos were not transferring because there is a maximum of 500 kbs required. It seems all of my pix are in excess. How does one get a photo reduced to 500? Or is this not possible? Does one need to go to Walgreens and get a standard passport photo? Some people have managed to get good pix on, but I can't figure out how to do it. (I should be greatly put out if I cannot show my pix hitting the Elmo pinata on my grandson's birthday, but as it is, I can't figure out what to do with the extra kilobites (or whatever).

Yes, thanks. It just happens I am so new to pix on computers that I only knew how to get my pix on--nothing about resizing. However, a friend did help me out on this one, so I finally was able to resize with my software and transfer.

Hi, all - I'm really looking forward to the workshop. Don't know if this is the right place for this, but I'll be flying in from California and I'm wondering if there will be anyone willing and able to provide a ride from (and possibly back to) the airport. I'll also look into public transport.
Thanks!

"Hi, I originally posted this. I got an email that you had posted a reply, but I didn't receive any other message. Is there a messaging feature on this website? " Well, better luck this time! I have now discovered that there is a box "POST" covered up by my toolbar. If I move the whole site upwards I can reach the POST button. Just commented that my daughter works for Delta so I will be flying into some nearby airport (have to fly standby) and I had more or less decided to thence take bus to Carlisle and Dickinson. But you should probably easily be able to find someone to take you back to airport at the end.

Now that I have understood how a thread works, I can't stop threading! Two Catullus books which I have are Catullus The Complete Poems, translated by Guy Lee, Oxford University Press, and A Companion to Catullus edited by Marilyn Skinner, Blackwell Publishing. The latter is expensive and cheaper used copies did not abound at the time I was trying to purchase it. Maybe you'll have better luck!

Are participants aware that Bolchazy Carducci is running a series of webinars this summer, one of them, on June 18 being on the subject of Teaching Catullus. These webinars one can view from one's home. Go to Bolchazy site for more info. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I shall be in Turkey at the time trying out my very limited Turkish!

Depends what you mean by is.
But doesn't Lesbia have a totally separate existence now, and didn't Catullus intend it that way?

A tough choice to be sure. I would have to go with fluentisono (64. 52), though glubit (58.5) is a close runner-up.
