General InformationThis is a featured page

The workshop is intended in the first instance for teachers of Latin, as a way to refresh the mind and improve teaching through study of an extended Latin text in the company of other Latinists and teachers. Sometimes those who are not currently engaged in teaching have been admitted as well.

Your Latin does not have to be perfect to participate, and we aim at a mixture of levels and experience. At times we have split the group as necessary into those who want to make quick progress, and those who need to go more slowly. The goal is for all of us to improve, no matter where we start from. But participants should have a solid grasp of the basics of Latin grammar and a decent working vocabulary.

Tuition: $300 (subject to change) includes housing (single or double accommodations in college-owned housing), all meals, and access to Dickinson facilities, including library and gym. Participants are responsible for their own travel and book expenses. This amount covers about half of the total cost. The rest is paid for by a grant from the family of John Roberts. Since the $300 fee covers only part of the costs, those who commute, rather than staying in college housing, do not receive a discount.

Faculty: Christopher Francese, Associate Professor of Classics, Dickinson College; Meghan Reedy, Assistant Professor of Classical Studies, Dickinson College.

Act 48: The Dickinson Department of Classical Studies is an approved provider of professional development opportunities under Pennsylvania Act 48. Those who complete the workshop will receive approximately 35 hours of Act 48 credit.
